Midwife Matters

Pregnancy preparations, women's health, and care options

Pat Wilson, CNM

St. Paul Clinic

My name is Patricia Wilson and I have been a midwife for 29 years.  My decision to become a midwife was made after having a wonderful pregnancy and delivery of my first daughter, all under the guidance of a midwife.  I became entranced with my new baby and decided the only way I could share the joy of my pregnancy and motherhood was to become a midwife myself.  I wasn’t even a nurse yet, but I did have a bachelor’s degree (in East Asian Studies!).  I was lucky to be accepted into the Yale School of Nursing three year program which provided me with an RN degree and then Master’s degree in nursing in 3 short years.  I have worked with a variety of health care organizations, but my home has been Group Health/Healthpartners for the last 23 years.  I love nearly everything about my job, but my favorite thing is helping bring a new life and a new family into the world.
