Common misconceptions of Midwives

If I choose to work with a midwife…

  • I cannot have pain medications.  No. It is in fact quite the opposite.  Midwifery care in the hospital does not limit women from having pain medication or choosing an epidural during labor and delivery.
  • I will have to have a homebirth.  No.  Nurse Midwives with HealthPartners provide services at The Birth Center at Regions and The Mother Baby Hospital at Abbott Northwestern.
  • I will only see them through pregnancy and childbirth.  No.  Midwives are capable of caring for women from puberty through menopause for a variety of primary health and gynecological care needs as well as yearly well-woman exams.
